Sustainable Fiber Sculpture

This Sustainable Fiber Sculpture began with gathered, responsibly sourced fibers - fragments of past use that I soaked, pulped, and persuaded into a new, enduring form. I was interested in how something so soft and flexible could be guided into a shape that feels both organic and quietly modern.
The finished piece carries gentle movement: curves that rise and fall, edges that seem to fold back on themselves, and subtle transitions between thicker and thinner areas. From one angle, it reads almost like a seed pod or shell; from another, it feels like a small architectural study. The fibers create a delicate, matte texture that softens light and pairs easily with both warm and cool palettes in a room.
I shaped this work entirely by hand, without molds, so the lines are specific to this sculpture alone. Small irregularities - a slightly deeper groove here, a faint ridge there - keep it from feeling manufactured and make it engaging to live with over time. It sits comfortably on a shelf, console, or bedside table, bringing a quiet, sculptural note without overwhelming a space.
For modern homes that favor intentional, fewer-but-better objects, this piece adds a layer of tactility and story. The fact that it is built from sustainable fibers is not just a technical detail; it is part of its character. What could have remained as waste now exists as a single, durable object that will age gently alongside the rest of your interior.
There is only one sculpture in this precise arrangement of folds and weight. If you are searching for a contemporary work that still feels rooted in nature and resourcefulness, this piece is meant to live with you as a daily reminder of quiet transformation.
