Handcrafted Pulp Sculpture

This Handcrafted Pulp Sculpture grew slowly over days of soaking, pressing, and reshaping reclaimed fibers. I worked intuitively, adding and subtracting material until the form felt balanced-neither too polished nor too raw. The result is a singular piece, with contours that hold light like a quiet, shifting landscape.
I began with upcycled papers, returning them to pulp before building them back up by hand. No two handfuls of material behave the same, so the surface records small surprises: specks from the original source, soft gradations of tone, edges that feel almost worn by time. These details are why this sculpture cannot be duplicated; the material itself has a memory.
The piece is sized to sit comfortably on a shelf, nightstand, or desk, where you will see it at close range. It rewards that nearness: gentle ridges meet smoother planes, and your fingers will find paths your eyes might miss. The neutral coloration makes it adaptable to many interiors, from spare, modern rooms to warmer, layered spaces.
Because the sculpture is made from recycled pulp, it has a pleasing lightness that belies its sculptural volume. I finish it with a protective seal that preserves the tactile texture while giving you the reassurance of durability for everyday indoor conditions.
If you are looking for an eco-conscious artwork that feels personal rather than mass-made, this piece offers a quiet companion-an object that reflects slowness, care, and the simple act of turning what was once overlooked into something that now holds a valued place in your home.
