This Textured Pulp Sculpture is all about the pleasure of surface - a place where the hand's small decisions remain visible and tangible. I began with upcycled pulp, pressing and layering it until it formed a solid mass, then slowly working into it while it was still responsive.

Using simple tools and my fingertips, I built up ridges, pressed in subtle valleys, and carved fine patterns across the form. Some areas are densely marked, almost like a woven textile; others are smoother, offering the eye a resting place. As light travels over the sculpture, it catches on these raised and recessed details, creating shadows that shift gently throughout the day.

The piece is meant to invite closer looking. From across the room, it reads as a strong, quiet object. Up close, it reveals a landscape of small incidents - impressions, scrapes, and softly rounded edges that speak to the time held inside the work. Many interior designers appreciate this kind of tactile depth, as it brings warmth and dimension to otherwise clean, minimal spaces.

Entirely hand-formed from reclaimed matter, the sculpture also extends the life of materials that once had another purpose. That environmental thread is present, but it speaks softly, folded into the physical presence of the piece rather than announced.

This is the only version of this texture and shape combination that will ever exist in my studio. If you are looking for a sustainable art object that will quietly reward you with new details each time you pass by, this sculpture is made to become that familiar, touchable landmark in your home.
